Enrol and connect your smart meter to set up your home
Install an energy efficient measure with any government-approved installer
Snugg will monitor reductions in your emissions and generate carbon credits
Snugg sells the carbon credits to companies that need them, and you’re paid
What are carbon credits and why are they valuable?
Companies set yearly targets, aiming to reduce their carbon footprint.
Those companies that fail to meet their targets buy Carbon Credits to offset their emissions for that year.
This scheme brings Carbon Credits to homeowners
You earn cash by selling your credits, allowing another company to offset their additional emissions for the year.
We believe that Carbon Credits are a force for good
They allow companies to show their support for carbon reduction in the UK and help them demonstrate they are serious about addressing their emissions.
Join us as an early adopter
We are the first company to leverage smart meter data to enable homeowner-generated carbon credits, making it simple for you to access the voluntary carbon market and have a real impact on emissions.
This is a new type of scheme without any precedent, and we want you to trial this with us, as the first homeowners to generate Carbon Credits.

How much can I earn?
Cashback will vary each year depending on a number of factors - most importantly, how much of a reduction in carbon emissions you achieve from one or more installations.
After an energy efficient installation, the average home might save 1.5 tonnes of carbon, potentially earning them around £100 a year. Snugg will take a percentage admin fee from these sales.
The amount you’ll receive is based on:
The reduction in your household emissions
Successful verification of your home data
The market rate when credits are sold
Harnessing data to earn you money from your improvements
By connecting to your existing Smart Meter, Snugg will monitor the change in your home’s energy use, turning recorded reductions into high-integrity carbon credits. We’ll then sell your credits to environmentally responsible companies who want to do right by the planet.
You’ll need to have an existing Smart Meter to be able to enrol in this scheme.

Be part of the bigger picture to Net Zero
By installing energy efficient improvements, you’re lowering the environmental impact of your life, directly. By joining this scheme, you pass on these savings to support UK companies in lowering emissions on a larger scale, while also getting some cash for it each year.
You’re able to choose who buys your Carbon Credits - supporting only more ethically-based companies, or opting to get the best price by selling to any type of company.

We’re excited to launch the Carbon Cashback beta platform. The beta label is displayed to show the platform is in its testing phase - this means you are among the first to try it out before full release. It may not work perfectly for everyone and you may not be able to enrol depending on your individual circumstances for now.
Please try out the platform, let us know what you think, and share any suggestions you may have for improvement - we are listening!
For our beta platform we require 12 months of historic electricity and gas smart meter data. This means that in the event you do not have 12 months of historic data for both fuel types you will not be able to generate any credits. We are working on a solution to address this in a later version of the platform. It is still worth enrolling, but we may not be able to generate credits for you at this stage.
Yes. It doesn't cost you anything to enrol or to connect your smart meter.
Snugg charges an administration fee following the sale of credits, which cover costs of verification, awarding credits, identifying buyers and the payment process.
If you’re thinking of installing any energy efficient improvements to your home, then it’s worth enrolling. Without any effort from you, your Smart Meter will track energy reduction and you’ll be banking carbon credits. The more you install, the more you’ll earn each year.
It’s wise to enrol early as you’ll need at least a year’s worth of home energy data before an installation, so that a comparison can be made.
It depends on how recent your installation was. If it was in the last month or so, then you will be able to enrol. Any longer and we will not have the historic smart meter data we need for our calculations.
For carbon cashback to be verified properly, you’ll need at least a year’s worth of home energy data monitored before any installations can be made to be eligible.
One common concern about Carbon Cashback is that it supports greenwashing, allowing companies to claim that they’ve done more for the environment than they have.
Here at Snugg we make sure that all companies we sell to are pro-actively addressing their own emissions before purchasing and retiring carbon credits.
Carbon credits generally were set up by the UN to support climate action wit the help of private finance through enabling companies to purchase carbon credits. In fact, a recent industry report* found that companies that buy carbon credits in the voluntary market are doing more to tackle their emissions that companies that don’t.

We are the first company to leverage smart meter data to generate carbon credits for homeowners.
Our credits are generated through Verra’s VCS program. Verra is the single largest carbon credit certifier in the world.
Energy efficiency credits have previously been very difficult to create owing to the data required to make the robust and credible. Snugg has changed this by leveraging smart meter data to make the process seamless for homeowners, and more robust than it has ever been before.
How much you earn depends on the amount of energy you save that year and the market rate for a Credit, which changes constantly.
As of February 2025, they’re worth about £78 for each tonne of CO2 saved - one Carbon Credit.
As an example, if you installed double glazing and insulation, you might reduce your energy use by 1.5t of Carbon.
Each year, that could be £117. Over 10 years, that might be worth £1,170. Keep in mind that the value changes each year based upon demand, however.
Keeping your data safe and secure is important to us - we’ll never sell your data and will only share with our partners for the purpose of Carbon Credit verification.
We need to make sure the credits we generate are genuine emission reductions and we are audited by an external third party every time we request one to be issued. Rest assured; we only share your data with our auditor if your home is chosen as part of the audit.
